Stewards of the earth
Khulafa Al-Ard خلفاء الأرض
Our outdoor Islamic program, where students are guided in fulfilling their guardianship of the earth — exploring Islamic concepts, the attributes of Allah, and du'as, all through a nature-based lens.
The meaning of أمانة — amana
Caring for the earth is a sacred trust
In the Islamic tradition, humankind is entrusted with the role of khalifah — a steward and caretaker of the earth. Khulafa Al-Ard means "stewards of the earth," and it names both a responsibility and an invitation.
Through outdoor experiences, our students reflect on the signs of Allah in creation, practice ذكر (thikr, remembrance), learn Seerah and Arabic, and discover the 99 Names of Allah mirrored in the natural world around them.
Open hearts, all welcome
Khulafa Al-Ard is our faith-centered program. Across the rest of AWI, our classes are non-sectarian and we warmly welcome families of all faiths and none.
